I may be wrong but I think that corporate monopolists Microsoft, if they detect that your OS is not entirely kosher, nowadays not only from getting windows updates, they also try to prevent you from using windows live and accessing most of their sites and knowledge base pages, most software should be open source, but MS has spent the last 40 years preventing the development of open source, so if recently you have been feeling frustrated by being unable to access MS pages this may help you to understand what is going on, it all goes hand in hand with the fascist copyright legislation just being passed in the us and with attempt being made to pass a similar watered down version in the uk plus similar legislation designed to censor the internet and the media
